THE UNKNOWN (1927)

  • “The Unknown” film score was co-commissioned in 2012 by the Alamo Draft House and the Austin Classical Guitar Society. The 50-minute musical score was written for two guitars and violin by Avers and Albert. It fuses together original music with Gypsy inspired moods and classical music by some of Spain’s most prominent composers: Albeniz, deFalla, Granados, as well as the French Basque composer Maurice Ravel.

"The highlight was Les Freres’ score. Guitarists Randall Avers and Benoît Albert perfectly captured the twisted (but now retro-funny) drama of director Tod Browning’s rather demented tale…”, Jeanne Claire van Ryzin, Austin360.com

  • Wonderfully bizarre, the 1927 silent film “The Unknown” stars Lon Chaney as an armless knife thrower for the circus and a young Joan Crawford as his love object.

  • “The Unknown” premiered to a sold-out audience of 500 at the Laguna Gloria in Austin,Texas. Avers and Albert teamed up with violinist Will Fedkenheuer of the Miro String Quartet and received a nomination for Best Chamber Music Performance of 2013 in Austin, awarded by the Critics Roundtable.

Today, the violin virtuoso Jennifer Choi (heard in the series “Mozart in the Jungle”) has joined for performances around the US and Europe. The production was showcased at the Guitar Foundation of America Festival, and the Tromsø Silent Film Festival among others.

  • Jennifer Choi has charted a career that breaks through the conventional boundaries of solo violin, chamber music, and the art of improvisation. Hailed by The New York Times as an “excellent violinist," "soulful, compelling,” and by Time Out New York as “passionate,” and “adventurous”, Jennifer has performed worldwide in venues such as the Library of Congress in Washington D. C., the RAI National Radio in Rome, Hong Kong National Radio, and the Mozartsalle in Vienna since giving her debut recital at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall in 2000. Having gained a significant reputation as “a leading New York new music violinist,” (Boston Globe), Jennifer has pioneered new works and engaging performances to the forefront of todays contemporary music scene. www.jenniferchoi.com
